Another man is nursing gunshot wounds at hospital. The shooting in Red Pond in the parish was confirmed by the police to our news centre.
Reports are Walford was getting into a taxi in Red Pond shortly after 11:00am when armed men approached him and opened fire.
The taxi driver was also injured during the incident.
Both were taken to the hospital where Walford was pronounced dead.
The 32-year-old, Nigel Walford, goes by the social media moniker, Meech. He has regularly expressed views on news and current affairs on several social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, including strident views regarding laws and policing in Jamaica.
The Campion College alum also created and moderated the popular Instagram site, AugustTown876.
Walford was born and raised in August Town, however, he was living outside the community in recent years, after being dragged before the court on a cyber crime related issue.
He was detained in April 2020, by detectives assigned to the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch, C-TOC.
He was eventually released on bail after being detained for several days. After several subsequent court appearances the case was eventually dropped in December last year.
